I Turned Trash Into Cash, and You Can Too
How I turned literal garbage into $1,200
People throw away the weirdest shit.
A few years ago I was taking out the trash in our apartment complex in Boulder, Colorado, when I got to the dumpster I saw something strange. The tips of two pairs of downhill skis were sticking out of the top. I looked them over, they were in good condition. Being a closet hoarder and frugal millennial I couldn‘t just let them sit there so I pulled them out of the dumpster and gave them a new home on our apartment balcony.
Making note of the brand and model of each pair I did a basic search for the skis online. They were older models but when new they cost over $500 each. On eBay, there were even some for sale right now, going for $30 each.
So, I did what any 23-year old who needs beer money would do, put an ad out on Craigslist. I had the skis priced at $50 total or $30 each. I figured I couldn’t turn down a chance at free money. It was a long shot, but hey who knows.
