You’ve probably heard the term ‘side hustle’ quite a bit in the last few years. More and more people are working jobs on the side to make extra income to survive in today’s society.
Side hustles come with a certain time commitment that some folks just aren’t aware of. Not as much of a time commitment as a part-time job (unless a part-time job is your side hustle) but still a commitment nonetheless.
This is why side hustles aren’t for everyone.
If you’ve been looking into doing a side hustle, maybe it’s a safer bet to figure out if it’s right for you before you actually start working. As a veteran side hustler myself, I can help you out.
People Who Side Hustles Are Right For
Stay-At-Home Moms
Side hustles are great for moms who already have a full-time job of watching their kids and their homes.
If you’re a stay-at-home mom and you have access to a computer, you can pocket an easy couple hundred dollars each month with just a few hours of work every day. In fact, you might even find yourself looking for more work because of how non-time consuming your side hustle is.
Off the top of my head, I can think of a dozen side hustles that work for a stay-at-home mom’s schedule. Here are just a few:
Writing on Medium
User testing
Survey taking
Between those three alone you’ll be able to make your first few hundred dollars in a month.
Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or a man or woman that just likes to stay-at-home, there is great money to be made with side hustles and it doesn’t require a lot of time spent or leaving your home.
People Paying Off Debt
If you’re trying to make a dent in your debt situation then a side hustle might become your new best friend. You can start tacking on your side hustle money to any debt payments you make and you’ll start to see a difference. An extra couple hundred dollars each month goes a long way.
You can also throw your extra income from your side hustles at other types of debt, like student loan debt. This is what I do sometimes.
One of my favorite things to hear from financial gurus when advising about student loan debt is that people should pay an extra $100 every month on top of their mandatory amount.
This is so funny to me because where is this extra $100 coming from? For me, it came from side hustles. That’s right, side hustle money will help you pay off your student loans much faster by adding it to your monthly payments. Shocker, I know.
You could even put it toward your car payment every month. Imagine that, a couple hundred dollars off of your car note by using side hustle money. It’s a beautiful thing.
People With Expenses
Besides debt, most people I know have other expenses they pay monthly. Utilities, subscription services, gas. All of these things could be covered with your side hustle income.
That extra $100, $200 or even $400 you make this month by doing side hustles could take care of the gas in your car, the lights in your home and Spotify. This leaves you with more money in your pocket for fun activities.
People Who Need Beer Money
Long story short, if you manage to make just $100 a month with side hustle income then you can use it to easily afford a few cases of beer.
Period. That’s the section, no more is needed.
People Who Donate
You could donate your extra income to your favorite charities or organizations. I’ve made contributions to places I like in the past and it’s a great feeling.
Plus, since it’s extra income you can just add it to the money you were already planning on donating as if it’s a bonus.
People Who Invest/Save
Invest or save your extra income from your side hustles for a rainy day. Just this year I bought my girlfriend a couch for her new apartment by using money I made from a survey website alone.
I was originally saving to use it for a vacation but when the world flipped upside down in 2020, I decided a couch would be safer. I call the couch my side hustle couch because it’s where I spend most of my time doing my side hustles.

People Who Side Hustles Aren’t Right For
People Who Don’t Like Money
If you don’t enjoy the feeling of extra money in your bank account or covering your expenses then side hustles aren’t right for you. I understand some of us just don’t like the concept of money and that’s honestly OK.
Not me, obviously, I love making extra money. For those who don’t, there’s something out there for everyone.
